A head-on collision on Saturday involving a Maserati near the entrance to Bel-Air left one person dead and three injured, police and fire officials reported Saturday.

Preliminary information indicated that two vehicles were involved in the 6 p.m. crash in the 10200 block of Sunset Boulevard at Mapleton Drive, officials said.

One person was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a Fire Department alert. Two others suffered moderate injuries; one person sustained a minor injury.

No one was in custody, said James Stoughton, an officer with the Los Angeles Police Department West Traffic division. The road was closed for investigation.

Another fatality was reported in the same block of Sunset last February. The brother of actress Salma Hayek lost control of his 2006 Ford GT, crossed into opposing lanes and collided with a Toyota Tacoma pickup.

A male passenger in the Ford, Ian Cuttler, 43, a Grammy award-winning art director and photographer, was pronounced dead at the scene. Sami Hayek suffered several broken ribs and facial lacerations, and the pickup driver broke his foot, officials said.
