Fatal accidents on 210, 405 freeways snarl early morning commute
Fatalities on two Los Angeles-area freeways early Wednesday stalled morning traffic as authorities investigated two deaths.
The first occurred about 3 a.m. on the westbound 210 Freeway in Pasadena at Windsor Avenue when a body was discovered in the roadway.
The man, who was not immediately identified and described as possibly in his 30s, was “struck by at least one car,” said California Highway Patrol Officer Francisco Villalobos.
It was unclear if the man was dead before he was struck, Villalobos added.
The driver who hit the man stayed after the collision and was not arrested, Villalobos said. All westbound lanes at the scene were closed, with motorists diverted off at Windsor Avenue to get back on the freeway.
Then at about 5:30 a.m., one person was found dead after a traffic collision on the northbound 405 Freeway in the Sepulveda Pass at Getty Center Drive.
The person who died was pronounced dead at the scene and was not immediately identified, authorities said. Villalobos said that initially, all northbound lanes in the area were closed, but a SigAlert for the incident said the right lane was open.
