Fontana man caught with 529 roosters, allegedly for cockfighting
A Fontana man was arrested this week for having more than 500 roosters that he was allegedly training for cockfighting, authorities said.
Eugenio Carbonel, 54, was taken into custody Monday after authorities found 529 roosters on his property in 8400 block of Redwood Avenue, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.
Authorities went to his home after they received a tip about the roosters.
Photographs taken at Carbonel’s home show numerous pens containing roosters lined up in his backyard.
Authorities also seized metal gaffs and training mitts used in cockfighting.
They also reporting finding veterinary medical supplies, medication to treat the roosters’ wounds and transportation carriers.
