A 2-year-old girl struck by a truck in a hit-and-run over the weekend has died, authorities said Thursday.

Asianae Thomas died from her injuries Wednesday at Loma Linda University Medical Center, said officials with the San Bernardino County coroner’s office.

She had previously been on life support and declared brain-dead, San Bernardino police told KTLA-TV.

The girl’s mother, Erika Hannah, pleaded for the driver to come forward during a prayer vigil Tuesday at the scene of the collision in the 2400 block of North Mountain View Avenue.

“He needs to come out and tell the world what he did to my baby, because he killed her,” Hannah told KTLA. “She was only a little girl. She was only 2.”

Asianae was attending a family birthday celebration Sunday when she exited a bouncy house and darted into a northbound lane for unknown reasons.

The truck driver slammed into the girl near a grassy median, roughly 100 yards long, said Lt. Rich Lawhead, a spokesman for the San Bernardino Police Department.

Family members told the TV station the driver slowed down and appeared to stop before peeling off.

“It’s been traumatic for the family,” Lawhead said, adding detectives are reviewing video footage from the incident but still need the public’s help in tracking down the driver.
