A man was injured Friday evening when the single-engine plane he was piloting crashed in a field in Rancho Cucamonga.

The crash occurred about 6:15 p.m. at Haven Avenue and Almond Street, said San Bernardino County Fire Battalion Chief Eric Noreen.

Bystanders helped free the pilot, who was taken to a trauma center. His condition was not immediately known.

No injuries were reported on the ground, and there were no other people on the plane, Noreen said. Fire crews contained a small fuel leak from the aircraft.

The plane crashed in a “very open field,” but the accident site is at the base of foothills, Noreen said, near power lines and homes.
