Two teens missing in Thousand Oaks believed to be suicidal

Authorities are searching Thursday for two Thousand Oaks teenagers who they believe ran away from their homes and may be suicidal.

Ventura County sheriff’s deputies received a call around 1 a.m. Thursday reporting 13-year-old Nicholas Marino as missing. Deputies searched for Marino at his girlfriend’s house, and Kaylee Rebert, 14, was then also reported missing.

“They apparently left some notes,” sheriff’s Capt. Luis Obregon said, but would not provide further details. Officials said the teens were last seen at their homes.

Tracking dogs led investigators to Wildwood Park, approximately 2,000 acres of trails, scenery and a waterfall. Sgt. Barbara Payton said Rebert was at the park yesterday, and about 30 search-and-rescue volunteers were searching the area. Another 10 to 20 county employees were searching elsewhere, Payton said. Both teenagers go to public school in Thousand Oaks.

“As a parent, it’s the worst thing in the world,” Payton said. “We’re turning over every rock we can in an effort to locate them.”

Family members of the two missing teenagers spoke to the media Thursday afternoon, imploring their children to return home.

“We’ve never been so concerned for your safety,” said Kaylee’s father, Dan Rebert, according to the Ventura County Star. “We just want you to come home. ... You’re not going to be in any trouble.”

The families did not take any questions from the media, the newspaper reported.

Officials are asking people to call the Thousand Oaks Police dispatch at (805) 654-9511 if they see or locate the teenagers.
