Police on Thursday were looking for a man they say was armed with a knife when he assaulted a UCLA student while she was jogging on campus.

UCLA police said the woman sustained three minor cuts to her upper arm after she was attacked by the man Wednesday around 8:30 p.m. while she was jogging on the northeast side of the Murphy Sculpture Garden south of Macgowan Hall.

The suspect, who "smelled heavily of alcohol," was holding the knife in his right hand when he grabbed the woman from behind, police said in a statement. A bystander yelled at the man, who then ran away.

Police said the man had light-colored skin and was wearing a black, long-sleeve sweater and dark colored pants, which were possibly denim.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at (310) 825-1491 and refer to report #14-1461.
