Three sentenced in Mexico-to-California sex-trafficking case

Three men have been sentenced to three years in jail in a scheme that authorities said transported women from Mexico to work as prostitutes in five Northern California cities.

The three, who were convicted after pleading no contest to pimping and pandering, were sentenced Friday in Sacramento County Superior Court.

The defendants took women, ages 21 to 30, from Mexico to work in brothels in Chico, Stockton, Yuba City, Fairfield and Sacramento, according to state Atty. Gen. Kamala Harris.

The women would spend about a week at a brothel before being taken to another one, Harris said. Each woman would provide sex for as many as 20 men a day, she said.

In January, the FBI raided the brothels and provided evidence for the attorney general’s special crimes unit.

“It is important that we investigate, prosecute and imprison those who force this kind of cruelty and depravity upon women,” Harris said.

The three defendants — Nery Najarro-Rodriguez, 42; Jorge Perez-Hernandez, 37, and Luis Mata, 30 — will serve their sentences in Sacramento County jail.

Another defendant in the case, Adelaida Teran-Bravo, 42, was sentenced earlier to six months in jail as an accessory to the pimping. A fifth defendant, Garrido Fuentas, 32, is awaiting trial in Butte County.
