Reader Photo: Best of Southern California Moments for April 2014

Share

Going through the past month’s photos is a treat because it’s interesting to see what’s happening collectively with Southern California photographers and what attracted the eye of the SoCal Moments team.

This month is no different: Call it spring fever, but this batch of photos seemed to feature plenty of outdoor nature shots and images of animals that the SoCal Moments team just couldn’t resist.

The first photo of the month from Karol Franks featured beautiful, crawling purple wisteria vines set against the coral wall of a home in South Pasadena. Rachelle Mendez took her boys outside to play in a park, to help shake those post-earthquake jitters after the La Habra quake at the start of May. Both feature beautiful floral scenes, showing off just a small sampling of what Los Angeles residents are seeing around town as gardens and parks are blooming.

The outdoor shots continued with some stellar night photography. Timo Saarelma shot some light trail photography outside of LAX, following the light emitted from airplanes as they fly into (or out of) the airport. Steven Bevacqua took a beautiful photo of the blood moon that happened this month, capturing the full lunar eclipse perfectly.

High-fives are in order for the animal shots we saw this month: The pic of two excited dogs at Huntington Dog Beach greeting each other (or, high-fiving, from the looks of it) was a great start to the dog photos we saw. Hugo Ramirez was at the beach when he caught the photo of his boxer Otto with another boxer, Eeva. The month had a number of other animal shots, the most surprising being our last photo of the month. A gaggle of bunny-eared ballerinas crouched around a birdcage at the annual Blessing of the Animals was a fun way to view the goings-on at the festival and to close out the month of photography.

Feel as if there’s a photo I left out, or one that doesn’t belong in the set? Sound off in the comments. See you next month.
