CALIFORNIA BRIEFING / CLAREMONT

Robert Klitgaard has resigned as president of Claremont Graduate University, a position he has held since July 2005 at the multidisciplinary campus that enrolls about 2,000.

An expert in government reform and international studies, Klitgaard decided to resign over differences with the university’s trustees involving strategic plans for the future, according to a school spokesperson. Klitgaard and trustee officials could not be reached for comment Monday.

An interim president is expected to be named soon.

After taking a sabbatical, Klitgaard will return to the faculty next year. He previously was dean of the Pardee Rand Graduate School in Santa Monica.
