`Sixth Sense’ Actor Charged With DUI
Haley Joel Osment, the 18-year-old actor injured in a car crash in La Canada Flintridge last month, has been charged with misdemeanor drunk driving, authorities said Thursday.
Osment, whose haunting performance in “The Sixth Sense” as a boy who communicates with the dead earned an Oscar nomination, is scheduled to be arraigned Sept. 19 in Superior Court in Glendale, the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office announced.
If convicted, Osment could be sentenced to six months in jail.
Osment lost control of his 1995 Saturn in La Canada about 1 a.m. July 20. The vehicle flipped over, and Osment suffered a broken rib and a shoulder injury.
He is expected to voluntarily surrender, the district attorney’s office said. It will seek to have bail set at $15,000.
Osment was charged with driving under the influence; driving while having a 0.08% or higher blood-alcohol content, with the special allegation of having a 0.15% or higher blood-alcohol content; and possession of marijuana while driving, said Deputy Dist. Atty. Ed Green, in charge of the Glendale office.
In addition, Osment was charged with driving with a 0.05% blood-alcohol content while being younger than 21, Green said in a statement.
