Minor earthquake shakes Newport Beach area

A magnitude 3.1 earthquake was recorded near Newport Beach on Wednesday evening, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The temblor struck at 9:28 p.m. at an underground depth of 4.7 miles.

 
The earthquake's force was recorded as far as the Los Angeles Civic Center 36 miles away.

There were no reports of injuries.
