Oregon marriage proposal raises the bar, goes viral on YouTube

Was there any doubt she’d say yes?

If there’s one thing YouTube has taught us, it’s that Americans like a good love story with ridiculous choreography. Following that trend, a couple in Portland, Ore., raised the bar for marriage proposals.

In a video going viral, Amy Frankel sits in the open back of a Honda CRV wearing a pair of headphones as the car slowly drives down the street.

A song starts playing. It’s Bruno Mars’ “Marry You.”

Soon people start marching in the street behind the car, lip-syncing and dancing to the music — first two, then four, then six, then 16, then many, many more. At the end of the song, the crowd parts, and her fiancé, Isaac Lamb, appears and drops down on one knee.

“C’mere,” he says, as she gets out of the back of the car. “You have already given me a lifetime of happiness. Will you let me spend the rest of my life trying to give you the same? Will you marry me?”

She says yes — and the crowd goes wild.

Frankel had no inkling of what was about to happen when Lamb asked her to come to his parents’ house. Lamb’s brother asked her to sit in the car and listen to a song, the Oregonian reported.

As the car began to move, and two of their friends appeared, Frankel thought they were doing a show for her. “How sweet,” she thought.

Then “Marry You” came on.

The crowd of dancers included Lamb and Frankel’s friends and family.

When he’s not busy ruining future marriage proposals for every other man in the United States, Lamb, 31, is an actor in Portland. He and Frankel met at an audition for “West Side Story.”

“When I decided to ask Amy to marry me, I wanted something she wouldn’t forget,” Lamb told the Oregonian.

“I was completely floored,” Frankel, 33, told the Oregonian. “We had talked about wanting to get married, but I never would have expected that in a million years.”

She added, “How am I going to top that?”
