Opinion: Fond farewells to fine gentlemen: Scully, Palmer, Osgood and Obama

Share

To the editor: Let’s pause for a moment to say thanks and farewell to three men of uncommon class, dignity and grace.

Vin Scully and Charles Osgood have signed off for the last time, and in a few months our president, Barack Obama, will join them in retirement.

( “Such sweet music: Dodgers capture NL West and Scully wins hearts,” Sept. 26, and “Arnold Palmer, 1929-2016: King of golf was sport’s greatest ambassador,” Sept. 26)

All of them performed their jobs with the utmost professionalism and all reached the pinnacles of their respective careers while remaining decent and honorable human beings.

It must be a sign that I’m getting old, but I can’t imagine how any one of them could ever be replaced.

To the editor: Rest in peace, Mr. Palmer. You were the greatest ambassador the game will ever know.
