Shannon Brown steals the show and seals the victory with 16-point fourth quarter

This dude had just scored 16 points in the fourth quarter for the Lakers, all of them necessary, two of the baskets coming at a time when the Milwaukee Bucks had tried to wrestle away the momentum Los Angeles had gained behind the hot shooting of Shannon Brown.

This dude had just made every one of his shots in the fourth, all six of his field goals, all four of his three-pointers, all part of a performance by Brown that helped lift the Lakers to a 118-107 victory over the Bucks Tuesday night at the Bradley Center.

So how impressed was Kobe Bryant by Brown’s impressive show in the fourth?

“Not at all,” Bryant said.

What?

This dude just put the Bucks away, coming up with big shot after big shot, all part of Brown’s 21 points, and Bryant’s not impressed?

“I wasn’t,” said Bryant, sitting in a chair with both knees wrapped in ice packs, a black robe on. “This is what he does. He’s been doing this now all year. I don’t think it should be, ‘He’s hot!’ Like he was hot tonight! He wasn’t hot. If he’s open, he’s going to make them.”

Bryant paused and chuckled.

“You’re surprised and you’re shocked when he misses,” Bryant said. “If he’s got a look, he’s going to make it. Period.”

It didn’t hurt that Brown was playing in front of about 12 family and friends who took the 90-minute drive from his hometown outside of Chicago to Milwaukee.

Brown was seven for nine from the field, four for five from three-point range, which tied his career high for three-pointers made in a game, something he had done twice previously.

“I’m glad I was able to go out there and perform well for them,” Brown said. “We were on a two-game losing streak and nobody was feeling good about that. So I really wanted to come out and help my team win.”

Brown began his onslaught with a three-pointer off a pass from Luke Walton at the start of the fourth quarter

Then Brown scored seven straight points during one stretch for the Lakers, capping his run with a three-pointer for a 14-point Lakers lead that forced the Bucks to call a timeout.

He scored on a reverse layup, a 10-foot jumper off a pass from Walton and a three-pointer off a pass from Steve Blake.

“My teammates did a great job of getting me the ball where I could be productive,” Brown said.

The Bucks made a run late in the fourth, creeping to within seven points.

Again, Brown stepped up and delivered for the Lakers, making a three-pointer from the corner for a 112-102 L.A. lead.

Brown kept his arm raised in the air for emphasis after his shot settled into the net.

His teammates leaped off the bench and cheered, pointing their first towards Brown on the other end of the court.

“He had a great contribution,” Lakers Coach Phil Jackson said. “He was terrific.”
