Roy Englebrecht’s career as a fight promoter spans four decades. Here’s his top-10 list of fighters who have appeared in his shows:

Johnny Tapia: The late, legendary brawler fought first seven bouts for Englebrecht.

Shane Mosley: “Fought for us early, local kid, very exciting fighter, future world champion.”

Carlos “El Famoso” Hernandez: “Made his pro debut for us. Great smile, highly articulate and another future world champion.”

John Armijo: “The ‘Fighting Lifeguard’ from Huntington Beach. He brought 150 people to every fight, other lifeguards and surf babes. I loved him.”

Genaro Hernandez: “Made his pro debut for us, became a world champion. A great human being.”

Israel Vazquez: “Fought for me several times, and would often show up on nights he wasn’t fighting just to watch. A world champion.”

Sergio Mora: The future WBC light-middleweight champion and winner of NBC’s “The Contender” show made his pro debut on an Englebrecht card.

Ola Afolabi: “When he made his pro debut for us, the opponent started to chicken out. We had to convince the guy to fight because of how Ola looked.”
