Update: USC’s chance of earning a first-round bye in next week’s Pac-12 tournament ended with a 65-57 loss at Washington on Wednesday. The Trojans are now tied for sixth place with Washington and Arizona State. USC defeated Washington State, 72-68, at the Galen Center on Feb. 7. Before Wednesday, the regular-season finale against the last-place Cougars appeared to be a probable win for the Trojans. But that was before Washington State ended a nine-game losing streak by upsetting No. 23 UCLA, 73-61. Brock Motum, a 6-foot-10 senior forward, scored 20 points and had 11 rebounds to lead the Cougars. Motum is averaging 17.9 points, sophomore guard Royce Woolridge 10.5. USC senior guard Jio Fontan scored 10 points and had 11 assists in the first game against Washington State, but Fontan suffered a wrist sprain last week against Arizona State and was limited against Washington. He scored five points and had seven assists. Junior forward Dewayne Dedmon scored 18 points in the loss to the Huskies.
