Uribe was back in the lineup at third Thursday against the Cardinals. It was his first game since May 20, when he went on the DL after aggravating a previous right hamstring injury.
"We're going to be a little careful," Mattingly said. "He's fired up to get back out there and be in there every day, but we're going to blend him in slowly. We'll try and make sure he doesn't have a setback. We're going to try and be a little careful early on."
Mattingly said initially he might play Uribe every other day.
