Dodgers turn it around with 10-2 rout of Giants

And now for something truly different, the Dodgers beat the Giants on Sunday.

Not just won the game, but pounded on them, acted like they wanted to take a season’s worth of frustration out on them in one game.

The Dodgers scored early and often -- another twist to recent play -- chasing left-hander Tim Lincecum in record time and then dropping four home runs on reliever Yusmeiro Petit to seal a 10-2 victory before a Dodger Stadium crowd of 53,509.

The win meant the Dodgers did not fall back of the Giants in the National League West and pushed their lead back to 1½ games.

If still left them a dismal 3-9 on the season against the Giants, but at least it beat being 2-10.

One game doesn’t end a first half chock-full of frustration, but it has to send the Dodgers off on their 10-game road trip in considerably better spirits.

They scored their 10 runs on 16 hits, got six strong innings from Brett Anderson and a good-enough effort from Daniel Coulombe and Matt West in the bullpen to close it down. The Dodgers got three hits each from Adrian Gonzalez, Yasmani Grandal (including two home runs) and Jimmy Rollins. Five different players reached base three times.

Their scoring outburst started modestly enough when Justin Turner walked with two outs in the first, went to third on a Howie Kendrick single and scored on a Lincecum wild pitch.

The Dodgers started to break it open with four runs in the second. A bunt single by Grandal and a basehit by Rollins preceded a sacrifice bunt by Anderson. Yasiel Puig then completed a 10-pitch at-bat with a two-run single up the middle. Joc Pederson doubled home Puig, Turner singled in Puig and the Dodgers were up 5-0.

Lincecum left when Gonzalez singled. The 1 1/3 inning outing was the shortest of his career.

In the third, Grandal homered for the first time, and in the fourth Gonzalez and Grandal hit solo homers, and in the fifth Turner hit a two-run homer.

It was 10-1 Dodgers, and if only for their psyche, a much needed rout.

Anderson (3-4) allowed one run on five hits in his six innings, striking out one and walking two. Lincecum (7-4) and Petit each allowed five earned runs.
