It’s official now: Enrique Hernandez will be out more than a few days with his strained hamstring.

Before their series opener against the Giants on Monday, the Dodgers placed Hernandez on the 15-day disabled list and called up catcher Austin Barnes. Barnes arrived at Dodger Stadium in time to take batting practice.

It was a foregone conclusion that Barnes would be called up by Tuesday, when rosters can be expanded. Barnes, the only Dodger at triple-A Oklahoma City to make the all-Pacific Coast League team, gives the Dodgers a third catcher. Starter Yasmani Grandal has been battling a sore left shoulder.

This is Barnes’ third stint with the Dodgers this season. He is four for 15 (.267) with a .389 on-base percentage in nine games.

The Dodgers also said the Sept. 1 roster expansion will include right-hander Mike Bolsinger and left-hander Ian Thomas, plus reliever Joel Peralta, who will be activated from the disabled list. Peralta has been on the DL since Aug. 11 because of a sprained neck.

The Dodgers might start Bolsinger on Thursday to give the rotation starters an additional day of rest.

Manager Don Mattingly said a second wave of players will be added later. The minor league regular season ends Sept. 7. He would not say if highly touted prospects Corey Seager and Julio Urias would be added.

Urias was promoted from double-A Tulsa to Oklahoma City and made his triple-A debut Monday. It did not go particularly well. He went one long inning, allowing three runs on two hits and four walks, with two strikeouts. The inning took him 44 pitches.
