Dodgers claim Carlos Triunfel, add him to 40-man roster

SAN DIEGO -- The Dodgers added a shortstop to their 40-man roster Wednesday, claiming Carlos Triunfel off outright waivers from the Seattle Mariners.

Truinfel, 24, was optioned to triple-A Albuquerque.

Triunfel was originally signed by then-Mariners scout Bob Engle in 2006. Engle is now the Dodgers vice president of international scouting.

Triunfel was rated the 30th-best prospect in all of baseball by MLB.com in 2009.

He played his first eight major league games with the Mariners last year.

Over seven minor league seasons, Triunfel has hit .276.
