Dodgers game in Minneapolis postponed by rain, cold

Share

The Dodgers haven’t played a game in Minnesota in nearly three years. And now they’ll have to wait at least one more day before playing their next one after Tuesday’s opener of a three-game series with the Twins postponed by cold and rained out.

The game is scheduled to be made up as part of a day-night doubleheader Thursday -- weather permitting.

The decision to postpone Tuesday’s game was made before players on either team had left for the stadium. And though just a light rain was falling, temperatures were in the mid 30s with a wind-chill of 25 degrees, turning some of the rain into snow flurries. The chance of rain mixed with snow is forecast at 70% Wednesday and Thursday, although temperatures are expected to warm slightly.

Nevertheless, Twins officials said Monday that they believed the improving conditions give them the best chance to get a game in.

Tuesday’s game was the third weather-related postponement in Minneapolis this season and the 11th since Target Field opened in 2010. Combined with Sunday’s rainout and Monday’s scheduled off day, it gave the Twins the equivalent of a three-day break.

If the Dodgers and Twins fail to complete their three-game interleague series, the teams have three mutual off days to play make-up contests: May 19, July 28 and Aug. 25, although the league and the players association would likely have to sign off on those dates.

The May 19 date works best for the Dodgers, who would be flying from Arizona to New York for a series with the Mets.
