Dodgers meet with Zack Greinke

Share

The Dodgers met with Zack Greinke this week, according to a person familiar with the situation who wasn’t authorized to comment on the matter.

Greinke is the top starting pitcher on the free-agent market and is expected to sign a nine-figure contract, something the Dodgers have the wherewithal to offer him.

The Dodgers are also interested in Anibal Sanchez.

If the Dodgers fail to sign Greinke or Sanchez, they could turn their attention to the likes of Kyle Lohse or Ryan Dempster.

Last week, the Dodgers met with South Korean left-hander Ryu Hyun-jin. The Dodgers bid $25.7 million to win a league-wide auction for the exclusive rights to negotiate with Ryu and have until Dec. 10 to reach a deal with him.

The Dodgers could sign both Greinke and Ryu, according to people familiar with the team’s thinking.

In other news, the team is planning to tender contracts for next season to both of their arbitration-eligible players, catcher A.J. Ellis and reliever Ronald Belisario. The deadline to tender contracts to arbitration-eligible players is Friday night.
