Top prep football games on Friday night:

Santa Ana Mater Dei (5-0) at Bellflower St. John Bosco (4-1), 7:30 p.m. (Fox Sports West)

The Trinity League schedule begins with No. 1 St. John Bosco, led by quarterback Josh Rosen, taking on No. 2 Mater Dei, which has one of the best offensive and defensive lines. After seeing Las Vegas Bishop Gorman pick up yards on St. John Bosco’s defense, you can expect Mater Dei to test the Braves’ front seven. The key to beating the Braves is denying the big play, and that means stopping running back Sean McGrew. Mater Dei quarterback Jack Lowary will be asked to play mistake-free football. The pick: St. John Bosco.

Crenshaw (2-3) vs. Dorsey (1-4) at Rancho Cienega Recreation Center, 7 p.m.

This Coliseum League opener between neighborhood rivals should provide insight on which team is going to challenge Narbonne for the City Section Division I championship. Both teams have young quarterbacks trying to lift their programs to success. Crenshaw sophomore Daiyan Henley and Dorsey junior Rodney Evans are the players who make their teams go. The pick: Crenshaw.
