Baseball: Alemany to play league rival Harvard-Westlake for tourney title

Alemany showed off its pitching depth on Saturday, with Kyle Merkel throwing a one-hitter in a 3-0 win over Moorpark in the semifinals of the Easton tournament.

Merkel struck out three and walked one. Alex Mckenna and Rece Reagan each had RBI doubles. Adam Bedrosian had two hits.

Alemany will face league rival Harvard-Westlake in Wednesday’s 7 p.m. final at Birmingham. Harvard-Westlake defeated Agoura, 5-2. Jake Suddleson had a two-run double. Jackson Grayson had two RBI. Ezra Sternberg contributed two hits. Ben Geiger got the save.

Birmingham defeated Rio Mesa, 10-4. Ryan Mendoza had two hits and three RBI. Edgar Rivas had two hits and three RBI.

Chatsworth defeated Hart, 8-3. Tommy Palomera had three hits. Chaminade defeated Burbank, 8-4. Cole Reibenspies had two RBI. Sun Valley Poly defeated Oak Park, 1-0. Newbury Park defeated Kennedy, 4-2. Zach Clarke had two hits and two RBI.

Grant Nechak threw six shutout innings in Calabasas’ 5-0 win over Burroughs. Nate Ryngler had a home run, double and four RBI. Greg Cromar went four for four.

Loyola defeated Village Christian, 5-4, in eight innings. Matt McGeagh and Awari Muoneke each had three hits. Camarillo defeated West Ranch, 4-3. Frank Tostado had a three-run home run. Jagger Rusconi hit a two-run home run for West Ranch. Lancaster defeated Westlake, 5-0.

In the Southern California Invitational, Royal scored 10 runs in the first inning and defeated Granada Hills, 13-0, in five innings. Ben Howell and Jake Zahorik each had three hits. Kurt Johnson struck out eight in five innings, giving him 21 strikeouts in two games. Sammy Villa had three hits in Cleveland’s 4-3 win over Oxnard. Royal will play Cleveland in Thursday’s 6:30 p.m. final at Notre Dame.

Sierra Canyon defeated Cathedral, 4-3. Karl Kani had two hits and Wesley Wright had two RBI.

Taft defeated Palmdale, 12-5. Jacob Davies had two doubles and four RBI. Jordan Myrow hit a grand slam in Sherman Oaks Notre Dame’s 12-0 win over Campbell Hall.

Orange Lutheran defeated Riverside JW North, 2-0, behind Luke Mattson, who threw a two-hitter. El Toro defeated Santa Margarita, 5-3. Montana Quigley threw a complete-game four-hitter for El Toro.

Chris Betts hit another home run but Long Beach Wilson was beaten by Marina, 4-3.

Mission Viejo defeated Laguna Beach, 21-13. Tyler Odekirk had a single, double, triple and four RBI. Cole Joy went three for three.

Etiwanda defeated Pasadena in eight innings, 3-0. A.J. Gonzalez threw seven shutout innings. LaMirada defeated La Palma Kennedy, 8-5. Ethan Lopez had three hits.

Jonathan Buckley struck out 10 and threw a four-hitter in Ayala’s 5-0 win over University.
Vista Murrieta defeated Pacifica, 5-2, in 12 innings. Hunter Tidwell went three for six.

San Fernando defeated Venice, 8-3. Albert Robles had two hits and two RBI.

Saugus defeated Simi Valley, 3-2, in 15 innings. Brendan Griffith drove in Tony Williams in the top of the 15th inning.

Temescal Canyon defeated Granite Hills, 18-13. Valencia got home runs from Cole Kleszcz, Ben Fariss, Jabob Silva, Trace Eldridge and Devin Davis in an 18-1 win over Apple Valley.

Bonita defeated Crescenta Valley, 6-5, in eight innings. Palm Desert defeated Damien, 14-3.

Michael Ramirez struck out 12 in Banning’s 5-0 win over Pioneer. West Torrance defeated El Segundo, 5-3. Hunter Lewis had two hits for El Segundo.

Verdugo Hills defeated Culver City, 6-1. Mauricio Mena threw a complete game. Troy Richards had three hits, including a home run.

Oaks Christian defeated Dos Pueblos, 3-2. Noah Prewett had a triple and home run.

Warren defeated Victor Valley and Arizona State commit Reggie Lawson, 2-1. Michael Hurtado threw a two-hitter with 10 strikeouts. He also had two hits. Edison defeated Anaheim Canyon, 8-5.

St. Francis defeated Monrovia, 6-3. Andres Kim threw six innings.
