Boys’ basketball: Chino Hills advances to Fairfax semifinals

There’s no stopping Chino Hills’ fast-paced offense this summer. Long Beach Poly tried for the second time in a week and came up short in a 91-70 loss to the Huskies in a quarterfinal game of the Fairfax tournament on Wednesday night.

LiAngelo Ball scored 25 points and Lonzo Ball had 21 points. Chino Hills advances to Friday’s 6 p.m. semifinal against Corona Centennial. Centennial defeated Fairfax, 57-52. Jordan Griffin scored 23 points.

Clutch free throws and clutch shots by Spencer Freedman enabled Mater Dei to defeat Santa Monica, 65-63, in a first-round game. Freedman, who used to play for Santa Monica, finished with 20 points. Jayce Johnson had 21 points for Santa Monica. Mater Dei will face Sierra Canyon on Thursday at 6 p.m. in a quarterfinal game.

Crespi will play Windward in the other quarterfinal game on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.

In consolation games, Henry Welsh scored 16 points in Loyola’s 67-54 win over Maranatha. Brentwood defeated El Segundo, 59-54, in overtime.
