Boys’ basketball: Cassius Stanley lifts Harvard-Westlake into final

Freshman Cassius Stanley of Harvard-Westlake is wasting no time making an impact in high school basketball.

He scored 27 points on Friday night to power the Wolverines past Calabasas, 69-60, in the semifinals of the Calabasas tournament. Ali Iken added 21 points and Wolfgang Novogratz had 11 points and 11 assists. Ryan Murphy scored 34 points for Calabasas.

Viewpoint (3-0) advanced to Saturday’s championship game of the Calabasas tournament with a 60-43 rout of Chaminade. Sayo Denloye had 15 points, Aram Arslanian scored 13 points and Christian Juzang added 10 points and eight rebounds. Viewpoint will play Calabasas at 6:30 p.m.

In the semifinals of the El Monte tournament, St. John Bosco defeated Crenshaw, 60-52. JJ Watson scored 20 points. Ryan Campbell had 18 points and 10 rebounds for Crenshaw. St. John Bosco will face L.A. University, a 68-52 winner over Workman, in the 8 p.m. final. Jude Agbasi scored 26 points and Rudy Eugenio 20.

In the Redondo tournament, Cameron Williams scored 14 points to help Redondo defeat Westchester, 69-65, in the semifinals. Evan Council scored 22 points for Westchester. Long Beach Poly defeated Roosevelt, 55-48, in overtime. Zafir Williams had 26 points. Poly will play Redondo for the championship at 7:30 p.m.

In consolation games of the Redondo tournament, Joe Tate scored 27 points in Lynwood’s 68-62 win over Mayfair. Sophomore Brandon Williams scored 38 points in Crespi’s 68-59 win over Hart. De’Anthony Melton had 18 points and 14 rebounds.

Brandon Russell had 28 points in El Camino Real’s 50-49 loss to Rancho Christian. Jadon Williams had 18 points in Narbonne’s 72-51 win over Campbell Hall.

In consolation games of the Calabasas tournament, Beverly Hills defeated Royal, 72-60. Maddox Daniels had 18 points. Moorpark defeated North Hollywood, 62-43. David Rowlands had 18 points. Inglewood defeated Peninsula, 67-44. Jordan Bell scored 17 points.

In Illinois, Alemany (2-1) defeated Alabama Lee, 66-63. Shacquille Dawkins had 19 points and DJ McDonald 18. Brandon Davis added 12 points and Earnie Sears 11.
