Boys’ basketball: Freshman LaMelo Ball of Chino Hills is set to make debut
Drum roll, please.
It’s time for the third Ball brother, freshman LaMelo Ball, to make his basketball debut for Chino Hills.
He’s scheduled to play on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. against Muir in an opening game of the Maranatha tournament.
Brothers Lonzo, a senior, and LiAngelo, a junior, are already committed to UCLA, and LaMelo is supposed to be a future standout.
Chino Hills is in contention to be the No. 1-ranked team in Southern California next season.
The Marantha tournament begins on Monday with these opening games: Claremont vs. St. Bernard, 12:30 p.m.; Viewpoint vs. St. Monica, 1:30 p.m.; Oak Park vs. Muir, 2:30 p.m.; La Mirada vs. West Ranch, 3:30 p.m.; Cantwell-Sacred Heart vs. Dorsey, 4:30 p.m.; Pasadena vs. Dominguez, 5:30 p.m.; Brentwood vs. Burroughs, 6:30 p.m.; Campbell Hall vs. La Canada, 7:30 p.m.
Tuesday’s schedule: Loyola vs. Claremont, 12:30 p.m.; Burroughs vs. Maranatha, 1:30 p.m.; Alemany vs. Dominguez, 2:30 p.m.; Chino Hills vs. Muir, 3:30 p.m. Sierra Canyon vs. West Ranch, 4:30 p.m.; Compton vs. Dorsey, 5:30 p.m.; Fairfax vs. La Canada, 6:30 p.m.; Long Beach Poly vs. St. Anthony, 7:30 p.m.
The tournament runs through Saturday.
