It was in 2013 when Jordan Mathews led Santa Monica to the Southern Section 1A championship and his "little brother" Jonah was a freshman on the team.

Now it is Jonah's turn to take over the role as the leader of the Vikings. Santa Monica will play Temecula Valley on Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Honda Center for the 1A championship.

Jordan is a key contributor for California. Jonah leads Santa Monica in scoring and has signed with USC.

On a day and night at Honda Center that will feature lots of outstanding guards, Jonah should be one of the best.

"They're both special kids," Coach James Hecht said of the Mathews brothers.

Santa Monica will have to deal with Temecula Valley's size advantage, but if Mathews is able to connect from outside, beware.
