Girls’ soccer: La Quinta is forced to forfeit playoff win for CIF rules violation

Share

The CIF Southern Section announced Sunday that La Quinta from the high desert area must forfeit its Friday Division 5 quarterfinal playoff victory in girls’ soccer against St. Margaret’s because a player who had been ejected from a previous game attended the St. Margaret’s game.

That is a violation of CIF Bylaw 2416, which states that a player ejected from a game can’t play in the next game and can’t be in attendance. It states, “A player who was ejected from the previous contest, who knowingly or unknowingly, participates in or is in attendance at the next contest, will result in the forfeiture of that contest.”

St. Margaret’s will host San Marino in a semifinal match on Tuesday.
