The week ahead in prep football

Share

It’s week eight of the high school football season, and the playoff picture is becoming clearer along with league championships.

In the City Section, this week’s big game involves the Eastern League, where South Gate hosts Garfield in a game that should decide the league title. Both schools are 3-0 in league. Even though South Gate is in Division II, the Rams have every intention of matching up with the Division I Bulldogs.

In the Marine League, it’s the rivalry game between Carson and host Banning. They’ve won more City titles between them than any other schools.

In the Southern Section, there’s another week of crazy showdowns in the Trinity League. Mater Dei plays JSerra at Santa Ana Stadium, Servite plays Santa Margarita at Saddleback College and Orange Lutheran is at St. John Bosco.

In the Mission League, Chaminade and Loyola have their last chances to stay in playoff contentionl. Crespi is at Chaminade and SO Notre Dame faces Loyola at Valley College. And, in the best game of all, Gardena Serra is at Alemany.

In the Marmonte League, Oaks Christian plays St. Bonaventure at Ventura High.s
