Ducks’ George Parros has surgery to repair torn retina
George Parros might be well advised to start wearing a visor — at least in practice — after twice taking pucks in the face on the Ducks’ recently completed trip.
The second incident required laser surgery to repair a torn retina of the left eye of the Ducks enforcer. He will be out for about a month and is expected to make a full recovery, the team said.
His injury happened at practice Friday in Detroit, and Parros posted a picture of his injured eye on his Twitter account, saying: “Groundhog day today at practice ... guess my left [eye] got jealous of all the attention.”
Parros had the procedure in the doctor’s office Monday. Two of his teammates also missed practice, center Saku Koivu and defenseman Francois Beauchemin, both because of the flu.
The Ducks won once in their seven-game trip, and Coach Randy Carlyle gave his team an earful, loudly, at times, during practice at Honda Center, telling them they were playing “summer hockey,” in terms of their defensive zone coverage.
“I wouldn’t call it that,” the Ducks’ Teemu Selanne said, smiling. “Because summer hockey is fun. It’s not fun. I love summer hockey. It may look like it, but it doesn’t feel like it.”
Balanced scoring remains an issue. In fact, scoring, period.
“Right now, Randy told us that our [scoring] average is 1.86,” Selanne said. “You can’t win even in the Pee Wee level.”
