* Boston 9, at Baltimore 4: Manny Ramirez hit his 501st home run and Mike Lowell and J.D. Drew also homered for the Red Sox. Serving as the designated hitter for injured David Ortiz (sprained wrist), Ramirez went three for five, drove in three runs and scored twice.

* at Tampa Bay 4, Chicago 3 (10 innings): Gabe Gross hit a leadoff homer in the 10th inning, helping the Rays maintain their one-game lead atop the division over Boston, where they will take their league-best 35-22 record for the start of a three-game series Tuesday night.

* at Minnesota 5, New York 1: Michael Cuddyer drove in three runs and the Twins’ bullpen came through with 4 2/3 innings of scoreless relief after starter Nick Blackburn was hit in the nose by Bobby Abreu’s line drive. X-rays were negative and Blackburn is day-to-day.

* at Kansas City 6, Cleveland 1: Brian Bannister (5-6) pitched into the eighth inning and Mark Grudzielanek and Jose Guillen homered to help the Royals prevail again a day after ending a 12-game losing streak. Bannister had a shutout until Grady Sizemore’s home run in the eighth.

* Detroit 7, at Seattle 5: Placido Polanco hit a tiebreaking single and the Tigers scored four times in the ninth inning off struggling J.J. Putz (2-3). Magglio Ordonez and Miguel Cabrera each drove in two runs as the Tigers won for the fifth time in six meetings with the Mariners.

* Oakland 13, at Texas 8: The Athletics avoided a three-game sweep, beating the Rangers for only the third time in nine meetings this season.

* at Angels 4, Toronto 3: The Blue Jays’ B.J. Ryan blew his first save in 13 chances this season.
