Angels 8, Cleveland 3

AT THE PLATE: A lineup featuring two Angels regulars, Raul Ibanez and Chris Iannetta, banged out 14 hits, including a triple, double and two singles by outfield prospect Matt Long, who is hitting .500 (10 for 20) this spring. Collin Cowgill hit a two-run home run, Grant Green doubled and singled, C.J. Cron singled twice, and Andrew Romine walked three times. Ibanez doubled and hit a sacrifice fly.

ON THE MOUND: Jered Weaver gave up three runs and five hits, striking out five and walking two in 4 1/3 innings, but threw 79 pitches — right around his 75-pitch target. He was happy with his off-speed pitches. “Location will come,” Weaver said. “Right now, I’m still working on stuff. The last two starts, you focus on pitching how you would in the regular season.”

EXTRA BASES: Utility infield candidate John McDonald, the team’s spring leader in defensive gems, made another superb play at second base, diving to his right to stop Carlos Santana’s third-inning grounder and, from his knees, throwing to second base for a force out. Reliever Michael Kohn threw a scoreless ninth inning.
