Pedroza remains red hot at Fairplex

The 16-day race meeting at Fairplex Park has been quite eventful. First, the meet’s dominant jockey, Martin Pedroza, who has won the riding title the last nine years, won seven races on both Friday and Sunday and has already won 24 races.

Pedroza’s feat topped the track record and matched Southern California jockey records for wins in a single day. David Flores won six at Fairplex on two separate days in 1992 and both Laffit Pincay Jr. and Victor Espinoza have won seven at other area tracks.

Pedroza won four more races Thursday, all in a row.

Fairplex had another singular moment Thursday, in the first race. A 10-year-old mare, Ms. Buckshot, won her first race ever. Owned and trained by Bobby Grayson, she broke her maiden in an 870-yard race of mixed breeds. She was one of four thoroughbreds in the race, as well as two quarter horses.
