These NHL Players Stayed on a Break

1-4-1. Wow, I bet Herb Brooks is spinning in his grave over the effort, or lack of, the U.S. team put forth in Italy. How about giving the game back to the kids so maybe we could see another father or mother share in the joy as Jim Craig’s dad did?

Well, it appears as long as USA Hockey continues to use millionaires we can stop waiting for any miracles.

The lack of buzz surrounding the U.S. men’s hockey team had more to do with the roster USA Hockey selected than with the popularity of the sport in America, as suggested by J.A. Adande [Feb. 21].

Look, my wife and I are rarities: native-born SoCals who like hockey. We spend hundreds of dollars each year to go to Duck and King games, watch nearly every OLN hockey broadcast and even went to Switzerland for nine days during the lockout to catch some Swiss National League action.

So our reaction when the U.S. roster was announced? Ho-hum. Not much scoring punch and suspect goaltending. We didn’t expect much from the U.S. squad, and it certainly lived up to our expectations.
