Galaxy’s Landon Donovan, Omar Gonzalez selected to MLS All-Star team
Galaxy forward Landon Donovan and defender Omar Gonzalez were voted by fans to be part of Major League Soccer’s All-Star team, the league said Wednesday.
Fans voted for 11 players, the so-called All-Star Fan XI, who will be on the MLS team that will play in the All-Star game against Germany’s Bayern Munich on Aug. 6 at Providence Park in Portland, Ore.
It is Donovan’s MLS-record 14th consecutive All-Star selection dating to 2001, his first season in the league. Donovan holds the MLS all-time record for scoring with 137 goals.
For Gonzalez, who played for the U.S. at the World Cup, it is the fourth selection as an MLS All-Star.
A total of 32 MLS players are selected All-Stars each year.
Caleb Porter of the Portland Timbers will coach the All-Star team and will will select the roster for the game.
