On Thursday, the Lakers assigned rookies Ryan Kelly and Elias Harris to the D-Fenders.

Kelly, drafted with the 48th overall pick in the 2013 NBA draft, has played a total of seven minutes this season in two appearances. Technically he’s both the best and worst shooter on the team, hitting 66.7% from the field (2-3) and 0% from the free throw line (0-1).

Harris, an undrafted forward, has played 11 minutes but is the only Laker yet to score, with just one missed attempt from the field.

It’s unclear how long the pair will stay in the D-League. The D-Fenders open their 2013-14 season on Nov. 23 at home against the Rio Grande Valley Vipers.

The Lakers (4-6) are about to start a four-game homestand. After hosting the Memphis Grizzlies on Friday and Detroit Pistons on Sunday, the team is off for most of the week until another Friday/Sunday set against the Golden State Warriors and Sacramento Kings.

Even with Kobe Bryant (Achilles’ tendon) and Steve Nash (back) out of the lineup, the Lakers can still dress 11 players if Kelly and Harris are on assignment.

The D-Fenders play their home games at the Lakers’ practice facility in El Segundo.
