Lakers officially sign Brazilian guard Marcelo Huertas

The Lakers on Wednesday announced the signing of Brazilian guard Marcelo Huertas.
A 32-year-old NBA rookie, Huertas has spent his career playing internationally, most recently in Spain with FC Barcelona, where he averaged 7.6 points and 4.4 assists through 28 games.
The Lakers and Huertas agreed to a one-year deal in late August.
Huertas will earn a non-guaranteed rookie minimum of $525,093, according to a person with access to the NBA’s salary database.
Also known as “Marcelinho,” the veteran guard will join Kobe Bryant, Nick Young, D’Angelo Russell, Jordan Clarkson, Lou Williams, Jabari Brown and Michael Frazier in a crowded Lakers’ backcourt, although Bryant and Young may play the bulk of their minutes at small forward.
Huertas becomes the 17th player on the team’s roster. The regular-season maximum is 15.
The Lakers are set to meet for training camp later this month.
