Stolen Lakers championship rings found; security guard arrested

El Segundo police arrested a security guard Tuesday, charging him with stealing two Lakers championship rings from the team's practice facility.

According to The Times' Alicia Banks, the suspect, Eddie J. Monterroso, worked at the Lakers' training facility in El Segundo for about a year before his arrest.

Monterroso was charged on Thursday with felony grand theft and burglary by the Los Angeles County district attorney's office, according to a news release.

Monterroso is also accused of stealing up to $20,000 in gift cards, and police said $6,000 worth of cards were recovered at his home.

Both rings, from the Lakers' 2009 and 2010 championships, were also found at Monterroso's home in Inglewood, police said.
