Estrada out of All-Star game

Right-hander Marco Estrada was put on the disabled list Wednesday by the Toronto Blue Jays because of a sore back and will not play in the All-Star game.

Estrada, 33, a first-time All-Star, said he intends to travel to San Diego and participate in All-Star festivities. He is 5-3 with a 2.93 earned-run average.

Right-hander Matt Harvey was put on the DL by the New York Mets because of right shoulder discomfort.

Catcher David Ross was put on the seven-day concussion DL by the Chicago Cubs, who designated reliever Joel Peralta for assignment. Ross took a foul ball off his mask in the Cubs’ loss to Cincinnati on Tuesday.

Catcher Alex Avila was put on the DL list by the Chicago White Sox because of a strained right hamstring. He had to leave the game Tuesday against the New York Yankees.

First baseman Justin Bour was put on the 15-day DL by the Marlins because of a sprained right ankle suffered Saturday against Atlanta.

Right-hander Taijuan Walker was put on the DL by the Seattle Mariners because of tendinitis in his right foot.
