David Hearn’s strong finish good for share of PGA lead in Las Vegas

Canada’s David Hearn birdied his final three holes in perfect morning conditions for a seven-under-par 64 and a share of the lead Thursday in the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open.

Michael Thompson, Mark Hubbard and Tyler Aldridge also topped the leaderboard at TPC Summerlin. Aldridge had two holes left when first-round play was suspended because of darkness.

Patrick Rodgers, Patton Kizzire, Chad Campbell, Ryan Palmer, Ricky Barnes, D.H. Lee, Ryo Ishikawa, Greg Owen, Shane Bertsch and Brendon Todd shot 65, and Henrik Norlander also was 6 under with two holes left. Lee birdied six of his first seven holes, then bogeyed the next two.

Kizzire is making his first start as a PGA Tour member after winning twice last year on the Web.com Tour and topping the regular-season and finals-combined money lists. He was married Saturday.

Jimmy Walker opened with a 66, and U.S. Presidents Cup teammate Rickie Fowler had a 72.

Thompson and Hubbard eagled the par-5 16th, with Hubbard holing 30-foot putt and Thompson a 25-footer in their morning rounds.

Ji Eun-hee’s 66 good for LPGA lead

Ji Eun-hee shot a six-under 66 in windy conditions to take a one-stroke lead in the LPGA Taiwan Championship in Taipei.

The 29-year-old South Korean player birdied five of her final seven holes at Miramar. Ji won the 2008 LPGA Championship and 2009 U.S. Women’s Open, both major tournaments, for her lone LPGA Tour titles.

China’s Lin Xi-yu was second. American Morgan Pressel, England’s Charley Hull, Germany’s Sandra Gal and South Korea’s Sun Young Yoo shot 68. Pressel birdied the final two holes.

Second-ranked Lydia Ko topped the group at 69. The 18-year-old New Zealander has four LPGA Tour victories this year. She won the 2013 Swinging Skirts World Ladies Masters at Miramar for her first victory as a professional. Americans Brittany Lincicome and Lizette Salas also shot 69.

Taiwanese star Yani Tseng had a 72. She won the inaugural event in 2011 at Sunrise.

The top-ranked Park is skipping her title defense to play in the Korea LPGA’s KB Financial Star Championship, where she was tied for first-round lead Thursday.

Pavan’s strong finish good for share of Hong Kong lead

Italy’s Andrea Pavan birdied four of his last six holes for a six-under 66 and a share of the Hong Kong Open lead with Taiwan’s Lu Wei-chih.

England’s Justin Rose was a stroke back along with India’s Jeev Milka Singh and Taiwan’s Pan Cheng-tseung in the event sanctioned by the European and Asian tours.

Ian Poulter opened with a 67. Poulter got a late spot in the field when American Rich Beem generously gave up his sponsor exemption, allowing the Englishman to reach the reach the minimum 13 events on the European Tour to keep his membership and be eligible for the Ryder Cup.

Poulter had expected to play in the HSBC Champions in Shanghai in two weeks, but lost a spot there when he dropped out of the top 50 in the world ranking Monday.
