Galaxy star Landon Donovan was named Major League Soccer’s player of the week, the league said Tuesday.

Donovan had one goal and three assists last week in the Galaxy’s victories over D.C. United (4-1) and Chivas USA (3-0) last week.

The 32-year-old forward has announced that this season, his 14th in the MLS, will be his final one as a player. Donovan is the MLS’ career scoring leader with 141 regular-season goals.

Donovan also now is six assists shy of the MLS career assists record of 135 held by retired Steve Ralston, who last played for the New England Revolution and is now an assistant coach with the Houston Dynamo.

Donovan’s goal last week came on a penalty kick in the 75th minute against D.C. United.
