Yasiel Puig did it again. He injected a little more life, a little more excitement into the Dodgers’ season.

Puig’s grand slam in the bottom of the eighth inning Thursday night against Atlanta gave the Dodgers a 5-0 lead and the extra cushion they needed for victory. The home run was Puig’s third, and he has only played four games. Puig was two for four, giving him this third multihit game.

Puig is seven for 16 with nine runs batted in and his enthusiasm is rubbing off on his teammates.

“Pretty special,” pitcher Clayton Kershaw said. “He’s got some major power. I’d pay to watch.”

Manager Don Mattingly was impressed.

“He plays with such energy,” Mattingly said. “There’s a joy in his game. It’s the way you’re supposed to play. It just feels so fresh. That’s what I like.”
