Homer Bailey throws second no-hitter in Reds’ victory over Giants, 3-0

Cincinnati right-hander Homer Bailey threw his second career no-hitter, the first of the regular season, in the Reds’ victory over the San Francisco Giants, 3-0, on Tuesday.

Bailey, whose no-hitter last season on Sept. 28 was the last to occur, struck out nine and walked one batter with 109 pitches.

Bailey (5-6) is the third Reds pitcher with more than one no-hitter. Jim Maloney and Johnny Vander Meer also accomplished the feat for Cincinnati, according to the Associated Press.

Bailey now has a 3.57 ERA with 111 strikeouts on the season.

The Reds’ Shin-Soo Choo scored on a Joey Votto sacrifice fly in the first inning. Choo’s hit was originally ruled a home run but was overturned by replay and he was awarded a double.

Second baseman Brandon Phillips hit a two-run home run to left field in the sixth inning.

Gregor Blanco was the only Giants player to get on base after Bailey walked him to start the seventh inning.
