The way the Copperhead Course at Innisbrook Resort played during the first round, Ricky Barnes predicted low scores at the Valspar Championship on Friday.

“The course is actually pretty soft, even the fairways,” he said. “We get receptive greens out here, we’re able to attack pins.”

Early action in the second round was proving Barnes right.

Ian Poulter was at three-under through his first 11 holes to share the lead at 6-under for the tournament. Co-leader Will MacKenzie was making a run by playing four strokes better than par through his first 10 holes.

As for Barnes, he started fast but fell back to par for the round to stand tied for third place at four-under.

Other players on the leaderboard, including Henrik Stenson and Sean O’Hair, had yet to tee off.
