Boxer Mike Alvarado arrested in Colorado after traffic stop
Boxer Mike Alvarado was arrested over the weekend in Denver, where police said they found a handgun in the glove box of his vehicle.
An arrest report said that Alvarado, 34, a Denver native, was arrested Saturday in the downtown area on suspicion of being a convicted felon in possession of a gun. According to the Associated Press, Alvarado in 2008 pleaded guilty to aggravated driving with a revoked license, a felony.
Officers had made a traffic stop for expired tags when they saw Alvarado -- who was not driving the vehicle -- shoving an object into the glove box as they approached, police said.
The object was a Taurus handgun, police said.
Alvarado (34-3) has lost three of his last four fights, including a unanimous decision to Juan Manuel Marquez at the Forum last May.
Alvarado is scheduled to fight Brandon Rios in a welterweight bout at the FirstBank Center in Broomfield, Colo., on Jan. 24. Alvarado is 1-1 against Rios.
It is unclear if the arrest will have an impact on that bout.
