Tiger Woods makes his debut as golf course designer in Mexico

Eight years after launching a golf course design company, Tiger Woods has completed his first project.

El Cardonal opened this week in Baja California in Mexico.

The former No. 1 player has seen other proposed courses in places such as Dubai and North Carolina shelved for various reasons.

"This is a culmination of a dream for me and my team," he said in a statement on his website. "I've always wanted to be involved in golf course design, and now my first course is ready to open."

The 7,363-yard course, which is part of a larger development, features ocean views and design elements inspired by some of Woods' favorite Southern California clubs.

"I designed El Cardonal at Diamante to make you think," he said. "You must be willing to weigh risks and make smart choices."
