Tim Tebow is named the most overrated player in NFL by peers

Tim Tebow is one of the biggest stars in the NFL, so huge that he trademarked the verb created out of the national craze named after him.

He is also a backup quarterback. In seven games with the New York Jets this season, Tebow has completed two of three passes for 32 yards and rushed for 76 yards in 22 attempts. That’s it.

And even though his adoring fans may not have noticed, apparently some of his co-workers have. In a Sports Illustrated poll of 180 players released this week, Tebow was named the league’s most overrated player by a huge margin, receiving a whopping 34% of the vote.

The guy ahead of him on the depth chart, Jets starter Mark Sanchez, came in second with 8%. Looks like the rest of the league doesn’t think much of the quarterback controversy in New York.

Jets Coach Rex Ryan laughed when informed of the poll results. “I don’t know how to comment on that,” he said. “I just know I’m happy they’re on my football team -- on our football team.”

The top five was rounded out by Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo, Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick and Baltimore Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis. Former USC running back Reggie Bush, now with the Miami Dolphins, ranked No. 6.
