Baseball: Quinn Brodey strikes out 15 in 2-0 victory

In a good sign for the upcoming playoffs, senior Quinn Brodey of Loyola struck out 15 and threw a two-hitter in a 2-0 victory over Gahr on Saturday. The Stanford-bound Brodey also had two hits.

In the second game of a doubleheader, another Loyola pitcher, Jack Poulsen, struck out six and allowed one hit in five innings of a 4-0 victory. Brodey, Stephen Dubb and Nathan Hadley each had two hits. Loyola pitchers allowed four hits in 14 innings on Saturday. Loyola finishes the regular season at 22-5-1 and won’t play again until the Southern Section Division 1 playoffs.

El Camino Real defeated South Gate, 7-1. Brian Oleesky struck out seven in five innings. Tommy Derry had two RBIs. Erik Whittlesey and Trevor Dergazarian had two hits apiece.

North Hollywood defeated Garfield, 4-2, in eight innings. Andrew Marmor, Ryan Ruiz and Camden Bickel each had two hits.

Cleveland defeated Monroe, 10-0. Zane Moses threw a one-hitter.

Simi Valley defeated Santa Barbara, 12-5. Robert Stephan and Abbot Haffar each had three RBIs.

San Fernando defeated San Pedro, 6-5, in eight innings. Kai Gomez had three hits and two RBIs and also struck out five in six innings. Rafael Salcedo went three for five with two RBIs. Freshman Louis Vargas III got a hit in his first varsity at-bat.

Narbonne defeated Verdugo Hills, 10-3. Scott Savage and Daniel Rocha each had three hits.

Oaks Christian swept a doubleheader from Dos Pueblos, 18-5 and 8-1. Noah Prewett hit home runs in each game and finished with four hits and six RBIs.

Warren defeated Poly, 10-3, in eight innings for its 11th consecutive win. Alan Trejo struck out 10 in six innings. Evan Holmes hit a walk-off double in the eighth.
